Why Native Plants?

Do you want more butterflies and birds in your yard? A landscape that changes with the seasons? Less maintenance and more enjoyment? Native plants can transform your outdoor space into a vibrant garden that supports pollinators, welcomes birds, and brings the joy and calm of nature into your daily life.

Low Maintenance,
High Reward

Native plants are species that have evolved in our region over thousands of years, adapting to local soil, sun, water, and climate conditions. Once established, they can handle our region's heat, drought, and even deep shade — all without fertilizers or chemicals. Their deep root systems improve soil, reduce erosion, and help rainwater soak into the ground more easily. And having a variety of plants that bloom at different times from spring through fall mean there's always something new to enjoy.

Supporting Birds
and Pollinators

Native plants also play an important role in supporting local ecosystems. Many adult insects like butterflies can visit a wide range of flowers, but their larvae (think the caterpillars of butterflies and moths) can only feed on specific native plants. Because songbirds feed their chicks almost entirely on caterpillars and other insect larvae, and one nest of four baby birds needs thousands of caterpillars to survive, birds depend on native plants that support insects. Bringing native plants into your garden creates a living food web that supports more birds and pollinators throughout the seasons.
